Questions

Common family-office model questions

Direct answers on allocation, liquidity, research evidence and the scope of the tools.

What is a family-office investment model?

It is a framework connecting investment objectives, constraints, asset choices and review rules. A model may describe allocation or produce research outputs; it does not automatically include management or execution authority.

Which family-office allocation is best?

There is no universally best mix. Spending, liquidity, outside exposures, commitments, risk tolerance and implementation constraints must be considered together.

Are the reference models backtested?

No. The four allocations are explicitly assumed educational templates. The tools show arithmetic under selected inputs rather than a historical performance record.

Are the case studies real clients?

No. Each case is invented and labelled hypothetical. Its purpose is to make a planning decision and its assumptions inspectable.

Does a cash runway include capital calls?

The portfolio tool shows starting cash divided by annual spending only. The separate liquidity schedule includes calls and inflows, with all assumptions visible.

Does a positive scenario result indicate suitability?

No. A selected scenario does not establish a probability, a risk limit or an appropriate allocation. The tool omits many effects and does not know the family's circumstances.

How should model performance be evaluated?

Identify whether the record is a backtest, published model history or actual account performance. Examine timestamps, costs, revisions, selection effects, benchmarks and the relevant investment horizon.

What should a research-provider evaluation include?

Define the use case, inspect samples and methodology, confirm data and usage rights, test delivery and understand which responsibilities remain with the office.

Do the tools send portfolio values to a provider?

The tools calculate in the browser and do not include inputs in provider links. Ordinary requests for the page and its public assets still go to the host.

Can a model replace an investment policy?

A model is an input. An investment policy also defines objectives, constraints, authority, implementation and review. The policy must fit the actual mandate.
