Start with a decision

Each guide addresses a portfolio or research-evaluation question. It should identify the useful input, a concrete way to examine it, the limitations of the method and a decision or next question. The purpose is to make the reasoning inspectable rather than to produce a universal recommendation.

Evidence and source boundaries

Conceptual references favour primary sources: professional curriculum materials, original institutional research, official product documentation and competition records. A product page establishes what the provider describes; it does not independently validate an investment result.

An illustrative case is labelled as such. We do not convert a source's example into a customer case, a backtest into an executed account result or several coordinated publications into independent assurance.

Reference portfolio arithmetic

For weights w and asset shocks s, the weighted scenario change is the sum of w divided by 100 multiplied by s. A $10 million balanced reference with weights 50%, 30%, 10% and 10% under shocks -30%, -5%, 0% and -15% has an assumed asset shock of -18%, or -$1.8 million.

The example then deducts $300,000 of spending and a 0.5% fee on the starting $10 million. The residual is $7.85 million. The model floors the displayed residual at zero; this does not mean liabilities disappear. Cash runway is starting cash divided by annual spending and excludes calls, inflows and inflation.

Liquidity schedule arithmetic

The annual ending balance is the previous balance plus assumed inflows minus spending and calls. Spending grows by the selected inflation rate from year two; calls and inflows remain flat. The calculation assumes no investment return and ignores intra-year timing.

Negative balances remain visible as funding gaps. The tool does not assume an automatic credit facility, replenishment sale or an ability to redeem an illiquid asset.

Comparison scope

Reference models are shown under common assumptions. A smaller loss in one selected shock is not a global ranking of portfolio quality. Provider descriptions compare different categories of offering and do not assign a fabricated customer score.

Current product availability, licences, costs and service commitments must be confirmed with the relevant provider. A professional's credentials and personal returns are separate evidence subjects from a model record or the suitability of a service.

Corrections and review

Source links and release dates allow a reader to revisit the underlying material. Material changes should update the affected statement and its review date, rather than make an old observation appear newly measured. A publication date is not a promise of a continuously updated market feed.
